Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. After her father had left, the Ford family was taken care of by her mom, grandmother and godparents. As a young girl, she was diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder, and also suffered from anxiety due to the word association. Ford's passion for acting started as a child. Ford joined at the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. But after just a few days, she realized that the school was not suitable for her. Ford was then able to apply for a place in the Central School of Speech and Drama and was accepted on her 4th attempt. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler, a regular character for Doctor Who. Ford didn't complete her degree until 1993. But, by 1991, Ford had made her first appearance on TV on the show Surgical Spirit. At that point, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate made her television debut in 1991, appearing on television shows like The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. as well as London's Burning. The regular theatre work she performed has led to her joining The Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 Season. But Tate quickly began gaining recognition for her stand-up comedic performances, which she added to her repertoire in 1996.
